I personally use either 30lb or 60lb 7 strand depending on the water clarity.
I'm using the same I use with a treble for live bait on kings, after all the teeth are the same.
30# AFW seven strand.
so the 43lb steel leader no good
Depends on what you're fishing for and where.
I use 10-20 # fluoro for specks and flounder depending on conditions.
At the pier, I'd go with wire as mentioned above.
alrite thanks is there any particular brand
I use SevenStrand or SurfStrand 27#, J & M has SurfStrand.
do you just tie it the same way you tie steel leader (haywire twist) ?
I like figure 8 or a single wrap fish n fool with 7 strand, but it is just as effective with any basic knot.
Haywire Twist is best for single strand.
Some others (IIRC, Pier#r for one) here said that a simple overhand or double overhand will hold with seven strand.
I've been doing an overhand with several 90'twists and it has held like it was welded together.
I've a couple questions related to the OP's topic...
Do you tie directly to the the lure's split ring or do you put a swivel on the split ring?
I've seen it done both ways and wondered which was more popular.
The Figure Eight can create a loop end like a Rapala knot, no?
Do you utilize this loop for more action with lures and live bait movement?
Using a swivel snap is only necessary if you wish to quickly change between lures. Works just fine snapping to the lure. Just keep an eye on it and make sure the snap bar isn't loose before you cast, 'cause you'll sling that lure off in a heartbeat.
