Does anyone know of a lionfish being caught on the GSSP?
No, and I've only heard of one being caught by hook and line at the same reefs thousands upon thousands speared.
Caught one 3 yrs ago on a bull minnow flounder fishing. It now lives at the landfill.....only one I've ever seen in person
I've heard that "they" are trying to develop a market for them, and I hope they do. The ones I've eaten----gifted to me by my diving neighbor---are so mild that they don't have much flavor, which should be a plus for those who don't really like fish.
I've heard they are a good fish to eat. White, flaky, and mild. Sounds like the only reliable way to target them is by spear... there are some crazy videos of people spearing countless lions in one location.
If you are trying to catch one, I understand they bite at night on live bait (what little they do).
