I am looking to buy something light to fish the surf with. Looking at the Penn Fierce 3000 from BPS.
Does J & M or any other area shop have a selection of used equipment for sale equivalent?

Try the buy, sell or trade section at the bottom of the forum page.
Pawn shops in Foley, GS and OB can sometimes have good bargains.
If you only plan on using it a few times I would just buy a combo from J & M or Walmart. As long as you flush it good with fresh water and oil and grease it after it dries will last for ever. Penn has some nice ones that won't break the bank.
Hi Craig, The Penn Fierce II is a very nice reel for pier or boat fishing, but I do not recommend using it for surf and wade fishing.
When they redesigned it someone had the dumb idea of drilling a bunch of holes in the base of the spool which IMHO just lets in sand and saltwater underneath the spool.
When folkses come in the store(BPS) looking for something comparable, I show them the Offshore Angler Tightline or Frigate combos (made in the same factory as the Penn Fierce II and Battle II respectively).
Anyway, in my mind there is no better surf/wade reel than the Penn Spinfisher V, but if that price is too high I recommend the Frigate or Tightline as they are even le$$ than the Penn Fierce costs.
Hope this helps!
