The Ugly Stick 7' 2 piece is my favorite rod. Tough as nails..and I have yet to encounter a sensitive salt water fish! There are no worries about the rod breaking under stress, and no need to wrap in bubble wrap and silk for safe travels. I am always on the look out for cheap yard sale finds to strip and rework the blanks for custom rod work for friends and family. I'm not sure what ugly sticks J&M has, but the 1 piece 7'6" mh inshore select would be great with the 4000 battle. The inshore series is lighter than the big water series and has more stiffness/backbone for the weight. Mine are rated for 1/8-3/4 oz lures, but they throw 1/8 oz jigs up to 1 oz poppers/plugs very well. Great for stripers, should be a fun rod for Spanish, blues, reds and trout as well.
Guess I need to clarify. Lol. The stripers here are Arkansas river stripers and average around 24". A big one will go 3'. I wouldn't reccomend the mh inshore select for big east coast stripers in the 3'-4'+ range but it would probably handle them if you played them the right way.Quote:
