Looking at setting up a visit to GSP
What can I expect to catch in May of the GSP? I plan on going out on a reef boat also. Anyone know any good reef boats [at least an 8 hr trip]. I used the Real Surprise last two times. Looking for bigger fish. They were pretty small last time.
Any word on when Snapper will open?
Re: Looking at setting up a visit to GSP
mainly king macrel, spanish macrel, and buefish, at least those are usually the the target fish

ETA - add sharks, maybe flounder and red & black drum, whiting and ground mullet, as well as the less desirable remora and other PITA fish
Re: Looking at setting up a visit to GSP
Snapper Season!!! What snapper season?!? :poke: just kidding!
There's plenty of good captains in the area, it all depends what you're looking for. Shoot JohnG, original pier pest, or Haywire a PM and tell them what you're wanting to catch and they can guide you in the right direction. As far as snapper season, I think Alabama has been rewarded a 28 day season starting June or July 1st for staying compliant, but I'm not positive on that and remember the snapper season/regulations are subject to change from day to day. Hopefully the "specifics" will be more specific as summer approaches.
Re: Looking at setting up a visit to GSP
Amberjack season will be open in may, as will triggerfish, beeliners and other reef "panfish", grouper too.
Red Snapper will not be open in May.
Its been 10 years since I sold my boat and haven't fished offshore since, I wouldn't know who to recommend these days.
Re: Looking at setting up a visit to GSP
If you are more interested in big fish than table fish, I suggest either a trolling trip or a 6 pack trip instead of a head boat trip. It isn't that head boat captains aren't good, it is that they are trying to deal with tight limits and a tight budget. Generally their priority is to let customers get something they can keep.

I would suggest working on proper grammar, spelling, sentence structure and paragraph composition before you sort out the touch screen. The problem with technology is that it allows an opportunity for mistakes to be made at rates unimaginable to prior generations. If you truly do make straight A's, then you or your English teacher(s) owe(s) the other(s) an apology.

Thanks for all the good information. I am going to try Late April / early May. I hope the water will be clear and the bait will be in then.
