Loop for leader
Hey Pier#r , or any of you pier rats , do you have a diagram of how to tie the “loop” to connect main line with heavier mono leader for spanish? I read a post from you a couple years ago that mentioned not to use a swivel. Makes sense what you said about the fish honing in on it and cutting off. Thanks

That loop is one variation.
I like the simple Surgeon's knot to join my mono leader to the main line...

If the two diameters and stiffness are very different (say 10 lb mono to 40 or 50 fluoro) I tie an Albright. Looks hard, but gets easier with practice.
BTW, beware of using an albright with single strand wire king leaders, you'll lose almost half your line strength (at least I do). I tie my main line to 50 lb mono and the 50 lb to the single strand, both Albrights.

I Just tie a loop in the 50# mono, basically two overhand knots with a big loop.

If you purchase the 30lb. Spro swivels at J & M I can't recall having problems with them getting bitten off. I usually use 2 line uni-knot. Check out Wired to Fish knots for every fisherman.

I use the two uni knots, like Tato. I need more than ten fingers to tie the Albright hitch.

With light main line to heavy mono,I tie a single overhand in the leader, pull tight, clip tag end flush with the knot then use whatever knot i feel like to secure the main line around the leader then butt it up to the overhand knot. Very small.

You've been missed John g

Okay so I'll throw in my 2 cents. I agree with Haywire except when you have really thin braid and way thicker leader I tie them a little differently. I double the braid on itself then continue to tie the unis. This helps eliminate the difference in thickness. If you don't do this the braid can bind up into the leader and cut it. I was taught to do this when we were fishing for line class record dolphin in the keys right after braid came out. It was nothing for us to use 4 lb or even 2 lb braid and then tie it to sixty and even 80 lb leader. Even now I use 10 lb braid with 60 lb flouro and hardly ever get cut off. Yes it is a little larger knot than John's but it is easy to tie and I can tie it in the dark by feel.
