Like many anglers, Ohio resident Derrick Marcum really likes fishing equipment. The problem, according to police, is Marcum doesn't like paying for it.
Authorities say they arrested Marcum in October at a Walmart in Forest Park, Ohio, after he tried to leave the store with two backpacks loaded with fishing lures and other related gear, according to NBC affiliate WLWT. The value of the equipment was $1,300.

That would have been bad enough, but police say that bust gave them clues Marcum was responsible for an unsolved shoplifting case the day before at another Walmart. In that case, Marcum filled five storage containers with fishing lures and other equipment and brought them to the self-checkout, where he paid only for the storage containers, police say.

The total value of the fishing gear stolen that day was $2,500, police say. The local county prosecutor said Marcum "pretty much cleaned out the aisle."
A grand jury indicted Marcum Monday (Feb. 27) in that case.
Marcum is being held in the Warren County, Ohio, jail ahead of his arraignment hearing.
According to wealthwire.com, the seven most frequently shoplifted items in America are meat, razors, baby formula, cosmetics, laptops, drugs and clothing.

Key word is "worth".

Like I learned several years back that some cheap lures ain't worth the time and gas it takes to troll them or the effort to cast them.

I have often wondered, so do all Walmarts sell the same tackle/equip or are they able to stock each store based on location?

As a regular shopper at Wally's there is more difference on saltwater gear than freshwater but not vast differences.

I know here in NC if you are 150 miles inland some of the W'stores don't even stock saltwater gear,but there is one at the coast(Wilmington) that is better stocked than a lot of tackle shops.

As an old long haul trucker who got around.
The fishing and other sporting goods vary widely according to location and the most popular species and methods.
Same goes for hunting, camping and etc.

Heck, ya should see how much fast food menus vary by region.
Go to Maine and eat lobster rolls and bisque at McDonald's, go to New Mexico and get Hatch Chiles on almost anything when they're in season.
And so on and so on.

I live in Terre Haute, IN and you can't even find a Penn reel at Walmart, Academy or Gander Mountain. I tried to buy 50 lb mono here for bubble rigs and couldn't find any. I buy most of my stuff down there and a little online.

Chile's statement about McDonald reminded me of the breakfast plate at a Hawaii McDonalds...eggs, rice and spam. Shirt and shoes not required

Shoot, there a big difference in saltwater tackle between the Walmarts in Mobile, Fairhope and Gulf Shores.

I sure wish our McD's had lobster rolls!
