Mem Day weekend
Great site here guys...extremely informative for out of towners and newbies. Just bought a medium sized rod and reel combo yesterday (6' 6", 5.2:1, 10# line) and am hoping to put it to good use over Memorial Day weekend. My plan is to do a little surf fishing and visit the pier if it's not too crowded. Given my equipment, I doubt I can chase the big stuff but do you guys have any advice on baits or tackle to use? I haven't done much fishing close to the shore...been more of a deep sea guy in the ocean and the bass in freshwater. Any help is much appreciated.

Re: Mem Day weekend
Welcome to the forum. Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest weekend of the year but it's a big pier and if you get there early its not as bad. That will be a good light set up for most of the smaller species (spanish, pompano, flounder, reds, ect.)For baits and tackle some small jigs, small spoons, and gotchas catch fish. You can also try a bubble rig for spanish or fishing a carolina rig with live bait for flounder or pompano. You want some heavy mono for leaders for spanish and blues that will be around then but just a light leader for others. If you have any other light set-ups it would be helpful to have a couple of rigs ready out there.

Re: Mem Day weekend
Thanks for the advice. I'm assuming J&M can set me up with everything when I get down there? Hopefully I can make it down a few more weekends this summer and meet some of you guys out there.
