I’ve been using either Ande or Momoi Hicatch in 20 hi vis yellow for years as my standard for beach fishing. I do use other pound test lines depending on the conditions.
I was wondering if there was something new that’s just as good or better that I hadn’t heard about. What’s your favorite brand of line?
Trilene XT It’s crazy how strong the 4# is!

The original question was about 20# hi-viz and I'd simply suggest that any lighter test will fish better. 4# is probably too light for what I hope to catch from the beach (and also abrasion-prone) but I'd rather get more distance and certainly more bites on a clear line like yo-zuri co-polimer at 12 or 15. I've fished as light as #8 (with a heavier floro leader). Caveat for my approach is that I only fish on vacation so I can keep nothing and therefore don"t worry about losing a few but I absolutely want to hook something.
Momoi has been my go to line ever since John G got me started on it. I generally fish 12# on the beach and have only been spooled by a large ray ( 400 reel).
I will also be beach fishing this year casting spoons or whatever else I may try, any suggestions are welcome
Will the mono cast farther than braid?
I was using 10# braid from the pier for spanish (using gotcha's and bubble rigs)
Smaller diameter line outcasts larger, whether by #test or material. Abrasion is less an issue off-bottom (spoons and lures vs sinkers and jigs). Fishing where the fish are located actually is far more important than anything involving line or equipment, but the latter is easier to blame for lack of results.Quote:

Maybe I’ll try the Momoi 12 lb.in yellow. I don’t think line color makes any difference whatsoever. That’s why you use a leader. I can see the yellow better so I can tell if the line is slack or bowed or tight. I’ve caught more fish on Ande yellow that I have clear so I don’t think the fish care.

Cool thread Rufus! I was hoping we would here from #r and John G🤔 A while back G had a party at the shop and we tested a lot of these lines We also tip tested some blanks and G pulled a brand new von snarl out of the box and ground the line roller down with a side grinder- sparks were flying😂
I've trIed them all and can't find any that works better than the ol stren.
