just wanted to brag lol my wife got it for me as a late christmas present.I got the 4500 model.and if it holds up like the tank it feels like it is I may buy the 6500 model.I think I got a keeper of a woman lol

as it stands im just going to pair it with one of my lightning rods and spool it with big game #12.but im looking at some rods any suggestions?or would you all think the lightning rod would be fine.
Hmmm IF the Lightning Rod is a medium action (10#-17# line rating) and at least 7 feet, it should work OK.
I'm kinda partial to the BPS INXS761017 (7'6" Inshore Extreme) for that line rating.But the 7' rod that comes on the Spinfisher V combo is only $20 more than the reel itself, and it's 'sweet'.

Your 12# mono capacity should be around 220 yards, but you could get about 300 yards of 15# braid on that SSV-4500....just sayin ;-)
yea i got a few of the one piece 7 foot lightning rods.but only rated for 8 to 14 line.
... Then it may not have the 'backbone' you want.

I was thinking about getting a st croix as my work is sending me a $50 gift card for basspro but.I cant see where a $150 rod can be that great.when the offshore rod is cheaper.I think ill prob go with your suggestion pier#r the only reason I was thinking about the st croix was I have heard people talk about the cast distance you get from them but surf fishing I have learned that more often than not most people cast past the fish.
Heck, I do that on the pier a lot....cast past the fish....but now and then get lucky with hits out there with the jig
Being from Wisconsin, where St. Croix is headquartered, you'll never find a better rod (my opinion) and their warranty and service is unmatched!
