Sorry for keep asking questions but couldn't find it in the search bar. My setup is a diawa Laguna 10-20lb rod with a diawa crossfire 4500 reel and 30 lb braid and wandering if this is a good setup for the pier for redfish Spanish mackerel and bluefish and such. Total newbie as I don't know why I got 30lb on a 20lb rod but I was curious of talks input thanks again!!
Is that a spinning setup?
Reason I ask is the specs don't show a rod in that class

Speaking from basics, there is really no problem using 30# braid on a 20# class rod until you max out the drag or stop the spool.
Then the 'weakest link' is going to give way:
The rod might break or more likely the reel gears will strip or the shaft bend.
Folks don't realize a $50 combo is not built to take abuse.
If you're a newbie and this is the rod that you have, then use it to see if it suits your needs. The exact rod that you use is not one of the more critical decisions, because it pretty much doesn't matter what rod you use if you don't get a bite!
Yea it's a spinning I didn't realize when I got it that I was gonna get hooked and be going a lot more than I thought . I can take a picture of it if need be I was just afraid the braid line would show up in the water and turn fish away. If it down there Saturday by chance I'll be there at morning light I would love to meet and learn some tricks or two
I love the rod I used it on my vacation in dauphin island sorry for all the questions just new . But I do have to fix a problem on it after you cast it reels in fine then it's gets hard to reel in like it wants to not reel but if u reel Harder it's fine don't know what it is
Have you taken the reel apart to see if there is some line or other foreign matter on the inside? Regarding using 30# braid -- are you talking about tying braid directly to the hook or lure with no fluorocarbon or steel leader? I'd use a small black swivel to connect braid to leader, because, yeah - tying 30# braid directly to the hook or lure might scare the fish away if they're line shy.
You can tie the fluorocarbon leader directly to the braid with no swivel, but it takes practice and testing because it has a tendency to slip a bit.
I need to look at it bit i was going to buy fluro leader at j and m on my way down and i will check the mine hopefully guays it dont wanna have to replace it
