There has been a net boat working the water west of the pier most of the day. It has been within about 30-40 feet of the beach. I’m not really sure what the regulations are but something just doesn’t look right about this!

IF ever in doubt call the Gulf Shores (251-968-7576) AMRD office and speak with an enforcement officer.

The Commercial Gill Net Regulations are quite complex, but these guys know them or face fines and confiscations.
IF there is only one, that is MUCH better than it used to be 10-15 years ago when there would be 15-20 boats within sight of the pier on a given day in the fall netting mullet and mackerel.
Prior to the mid 1990s, we used to see schools of mullet, solid from just off the beach out to the sandbar, and the length of a football field or more.
The mullet seem to be slowly coming back, as they have in Florida, now again noted for their fall mullet runs along the Atlantic coastline.
Got a call from Rowdy last week- he was in need of some crickets ! He said the mullet were schooled from the pavilion to sea and suds! He removed the goggles by the way We’re all proud of him🤙
They will eat mealworms and black fly larvae at the spillway- but they’ll eat “silver” crickets in all locations kinda hard for them to resist! To #rs point we have been seeing larger numbers this year Helps with the inshore king bite for sure
May the cat with the straw hat be with Rowdy..
00706, call me at 251 978 3942 next time their stacked up. Will go check the beach in front of Cotton Bayou launch in the AM. I’ll never forget the day the cat in the hat was walking on water when a big hammerhead went between his legs. Or the time the lady threw the trail of mullet back in the water because she thought they needed help! Funny how simple posts spark the brain.
Was able to force feed six before my body said no more. It was cold!
They’re so thick at the pier I been lipping them on jigs ! Glad you got a few funny story also was when Rowdy got into his beverage cooler over at the spillway😂
There should be a spillway section on the forum !
