Big bull shark could obliterate Alabama state record by 112 pounds



Jeff Moore of Birmingham landed this pending Alabama state record, 448-pound, 4-ounce bull shark while on a family red snapper trip with Gary Bryant and "Red Eye" charters on June 10. Moore's fished weighs 112 pounds more than the existing record. It took Moore roughly 100 minutes to get the fish boatside and the entire crew another 45 minutes to hoist its bulk over the big offshore boat's tall gunwale. (Courtesy Jeff Moore)

Moore's shark officially measured 7 feet, 6 inches from the tip of the snout to the fork of the tail and 8 feet, 10 inches overall.
It had an impressive 63-inch girth around the stomach.

Pretty big one, but bigger have definitely been caught. I'd go so far as to say they aren't particularly rare in that size. I want to say someone weighed a substantially larger one during the ADSFR several years ago. Most people just don't bother with the paperwork. I'd have the state record hammerhead if I did the forms.

Too bad they killed her.
Nice breeding female, that length with that girth means she is likely pregnant.
Hope they ate her, but since she was obviously certified scaled weighed, the meat was probably ruined.
Oh well.
