New gear?
Hunting season is over...time to put up all the decoys, camo, rifles, and shotguns. While breaking out the tackle for the upcoming Spring, is there anything (gear wise) that you will be adding to your collection? Maybe you are modifying something you already have? I, myself, will be working on a second pier cart to bring for when I am alone and do not need to haul 2 people's gear.

Re: New gear?
I will be looking to get a cobia set up that could also be used as a good king rod/reel as well. Never caught a cobia but would like to learn how this year.

Re: New gear?
Peaches...Do you have a Photobucket account or something similar? You could use your smart phone to access the account and copy the URL, then paste it on here.

Re: New gear?
Ling set up is another thing I'm doing. I settled for using left over riff raff I had last year. I will build a new rod before they start running.

Re: New gear?
I just bought a Penn Battle 5000 and mounted it on a inexpensive Offshore Angler, Power Stick, 7', 10-17#, 1/2-2.oz lure, light action.
It did really well landing a 25lb 8oz Big Ugly in the surf, so I think it'll do well for the rest of the common species in the shallows.
Next up I was looking for something suitable for King & Ling, 8-10', one piece will do, but preferably two piece.
I've a Penn 705Z I'm not using and thought it would suffice for this purpose.
Maybe one of these?

Any input would be appreciated.
And I'm grabbing a used pier cart.

Re: New gear?
I plan on build a new Phenix 9'3" Black Diamond Hybrid, fully woven carbon fiber blank, with K series guides, a matagi reelseat, some type of speciality sealed cork grips. Top it all off with a VS200 filled with Momoi diamond braid. If my wife is going to limit me to building one rod per year for myself, I might as well go all out.

Sounds SICK :headbang:
I'd put a GPS tag on it before I ever left it on a cart and walked away from it. But I'm paranoid like that.

Re: New gear?
I'm gonna train myself to reel with my left hand. Got a vs150s for the pier and a red sr-12 for off shore. Both right handed.

Re: New gear?
Why not sell them and use the money to get some nice left handed reels?
