only problem with those chips is you cant track them on the net. you have to have the animal(or reel and rod in this case) to use a scanner to know who it belongs to. its not a GPS so to say. its more of a electronic identifier
[/quote]That's correct, they're not GPS, they're RFID chips.
Do they have GPS chips or similar devices, small enough and affordable enough, for putting in valuable property?
And would them being in a house or etc, block the signal? I mean if it wasn't actively emitting a signal, could it be easily tracked?
Put on your tinfoil hats and read about the conspiracy theories involving RFID chips and public/private scanners being able to pin point & track people, via the credit card/etc in your wallet. :run

Re: New gear?
They make small GPS trackers to track animals and fish, I'm pretty sure there is someting small enought out there to put on a rod somewhere.

Re: New gear?
So it would just be a way to identify it as yours if you or someone who knows the stolen item found it in someone elses hands.
It would be nice if someone would come up with a chip small enough to use that was "trackable".
Thanks for the info!

Re: New gear?
The problem you run into with trackable GPS beacons is they must have a power supply. Unfortunately most of the powersources that work the best for GPS transmitters are actually quite large in comparison to a fishing rod.

Re: New gear?
Speaking of spanish gaffs, here's the new one I just finished. 14/0 Stainless treble with about 14 oz of lead.

I know a net would be better, but I just don't have room for one in the car. Rigged with a line clip so I can slide it down and gaff my own fish, hopefully. :)

Rich, I'm gonna fish next to you from now on. :fishing:

Haywire, you netted so many for me last fall it will be a privilege to try and get caught up a bit. Just hope the big ones come back around again so I can put it to use.

Re: New gear?
As far as the GPS tags go...We are supposed to be implementing a new tracking system for Wheelchairs here at Thomas Hospital so we can track them, especially when stolen. I will find out more info once we go live with that and see if you can obtain said tags for the public.

Re: New gear?
What pounder said. He extended with an aluminum net handle I believe it was. Its not flashy bit it sure is gonna get the job done. The kings had better watch out this year.
-
Re: New gear?
I took my primary king rod and extended it a foot. It's not a rod you'd want to cast all day, your arms could get tired after several hundred casts. Being I like casting into the wind(I prefer dead bait)and normally fish less than two hours at a time ,it should fit my style perfect.

John just wants to have the extra distance because he is tired of Hannah showing him up :poke1:
