newbie/ft.morgan bayfishing

Great forum guys,Hedn down to rent house few miles east of ft morgan on bay side.The owners said i could put raw chicken necks in their crab traps and have success with blue crabs at the end of their private pier.Any tips on that catching and cooking would be awesome! Also gunna be bringin down sum light and medium tackle.What are sum simple techniques to use from their pier or a kayak in that area?Hell,I would even love to catch baitfish! Hello, big kuntry, and welcome to the Forum. Blue crabs are caught with chicken necks because they are able to last a long time. Fish carcasses also work really good. Crab must be cooked while alive. The flesh of crab is so very delicate, it should not be consumed if dies. Won't kill you, but the sweetness is lost. A large pot, 1/2 full of water, a can of Old Bay Crab Boil ( follow directions on can ), a few fresh lemons are all that we use. bring the water to a rolling boil, and add live crabs. Cover and boil for 3- 5 minutes. Personally don't have side dishes, myself, I eat crabs like a pig in slop. Corn on the cob, with butter, and coleslaw is traditional, though. Light to medium tackle is fine for the bay and the surf. Best bait is FRESH dead shrimp, peeled as you use them, or live shrimp. That is a jam up place to catch blue crabs. Make sure they are legal size and release any females with eggs attached.
