Newbie looking for advice

We are from Texas and normally fish Galveston at the Galveston Fishing Pier for our saltwater fix.

I would love to fish the blue water once on my life. Is the water Green or Blue at Gulf Shores pier?

When would you suggest to a newbie here the best times to schedule a fishing trip to Gulf Shores?

Water is mostly greenish with occasional bursts of brown. Sometimes it is remarkably clear.

As a fellow fishing traveller, I am particularly fond of october. Spanish and baby ly's with light tackle.

The water is generally green when it is clearer.
The best time to schedule a trip would have been the first week of May 2012. The last couple of years it really doesn't matter, since things have been hit or miss (mostly miss), just come when you can. In all seriousness mid March through May seems to be the most productive time of year overall.

Would this apply to the pier and surf fishing only, or does it apply to charter fishing? I.E. off shore, bay fishing? I know the tides and current play a role, and calm, slack water is not usually good. That is, according to what I've learned on this site. Good luck flounderman.

We are looking for pier recommendations. I'm in an electric wheelchair so charters don't work for me.

Down here in Galveston the water is normally stained green so I was hoping to find a pier within a driving distance with blue water to fish. Thanks for all your advice!! We are only interested in pier fishing also.

Thanks for that advice. My favorite time of year to fish anywhere is spring and fall like in (October and November) if just for the cooler temperatures.

October and November are great to fish. We caught a lot of slot reds this past october and then november was a blast if you enjoy catching whiting. With light tackle the steady stream of 12-16inch whiting are a lot of fun and easy to catch.

Mid April through the end of May is my favorite time to fish since there are so many tasty things around at that time. Pompano are around and you just need cut pieces of dead raw shrimp and a simple spinning rig. The same setup might get you a redfish, sheepshead or black drum all of wich make good table fare and can be caught in the shallows that time of year.
