Also, just basically read anything that #r or JohnG write. You can't help but learn. You can click on their name and view their profile - you can then read all of the posts they've written. Just cruising thru them will start to give you some insight into pier fishing.

Newbie here too
I took that advice and just sent Pier# an email about hiring him as a guide. We come down almost every year in the fall, and this year we've booked Four Seasons so we can fish that private pier. I'm lost as I haven't saltwater fished in a zillion years and then it was always with a guide. Husband and I are sure going to need some help. I'm scouring now trying to figure out what's most important to look for in rods/reels for saltwater and everything else we'll need to bring with us or buy there. Sure hope we catch enough to feed us for a week. We spend a fortune at Lartigues and Blalock's every year. Be nice to catch some of our own!
