Gafs and nets are allowed at the pier but most people will help you

Re: Newbie question
There aren't any 'community or pier property' gaffs/nets.
People targeting larger species, generally have one or the other or both, and if you ask nicely they may help you or let you use theirs.Ragnar Benson:

Die if you must, but die on your home turf with your face to the wind, not in some stinking hellhole 2,000 kilometers away, among people you neither know nor care about.

Re: Newbie question
There is usually both available from fellow fisherman. Some will let you use theirs and some will do the netting for you. If you're polite, most will not have a problem with it. The folks at the gulf shores pier are the best I've found along the whole coast. With that said, recently all nets were busy at the same time and you would have to wait. It also depends on the time of day. Sometimes are busier than others and sometimes a net may not be available. When needed, a gaff works the same way. Some are particular on letting someone else use their gear but usually willing to gaff it for you. Have fun and good fishing!

Re: Newbie question
If someone lets you use a gaff DO NOT slam it on the deck
And also DO NOT grab a net or gaff that isn't yours without asking..Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

I figure it this way, if everyone in the world had a lie clock, whose hands moved once every time they lied. You could use any politicians lie clock as a ceiling fan.

This Thanksgiving, I'm thankful for an abundant fishery and a magnificent pier, from which to access that fishery. I'm thankful for the morning view of the sunrise and what a spectacular view it is...
Happy Thanksgiving!
