Not our imagination
My neighbor here in Orange Beach was telling me about his participation in the dive to clean up around the pier, and how bad the visibility was. He's a dive instructor and works with one of the local dive operations, and said that this past summer, they wouldn't stop for a dive until they were at least 15 miles offshore, where the visibility improved. I can't cast that far, even from the octi. Sounds like we might have had a poor season, even if the pier had been whole---not as bad as it was, but less than stellar. Anyhow, the bad water isn't just at the pier.
I have been reassured in my opinions about the State's urgency in starting the pier repairs after hurricane season. I guess that up in their bureaucratic circus, the clowns get to fighting the monkeys and nobody does anything until the last elephant turd has been thrown. I may have to buy a dam boat---or make friends with someone who has one.

That was our experience as well. We did catch a few nice kings near the beach in early-mid July, but not nearly as good as last year.

I sure hope they can get started soon would love to get some fishing in before summer sets in and it gets too crowded.

... or April. Whichever comes first.

I was told by a Park employee that the "target" date for completion was in May. I didn't get to quiz him about how he got that info.
I'd sure like to see them start.

I would be very, very surprised if I could set foot on the octi before 2023. Very happy, though, if it were earlier.
