Was going to suggest 2 pc rods for ease of transporting. While they aren't ideal, it does make it a lot easier to carry them in a small(ish) car. If you do go with one piece rods, get a length of 4" PVC (may be able to get by with 2" and put the rods in with butt to tip) and a couple of caps to go on the ends. Cut to a length a little longer than the rods and put the rods in the PVC and the reels in the car. Strap the PVC to the roof of the car (or you could put it in the car without fear of breaking an eye off of the rod) and hit the road.

Another idea, if you're going to be purchasing new rods, wait and buy them down here (Bass Pro Shops or Academy should have them), then use the method above to transport them back home, or mail them back home.

My previous car was a Datsun sedan, I used to roll the back passenger side window down and put the rods in with the butt on the front passenger side.
If someone is riding there they can get in first then pass the rods over their shoulder to lay next to them.
That or get a roof rack ;-)

Just about all 'off the shelf' saltwater rated rods are two piece over 7 feet and one piece 7 and shorter.

The main reason I am not a 'fan' of Battle II and Pursuit in the surf is because of the cut outs in the spool and rotor.
Why in the world would you want holes in areel to allow sand to get in where it doesn't need to be?
Anyway, that's the main reason I recommend Fierce and Spinfisher V for surf fishing...

I use 4 inch pvc cut to what ever length suits you and you can get in the vehicle. You can get several rods in it.

I use a base ball equipment bag. The rods go in the bat storage slot, and reels and rain gear go in the large zippered compartment. I have 2-piece rods, and use 2 elastic hair bows on each rod. one around the but end and one at the tip. Loosen the handles of the reels and secure them to the reel seat with the same hair bows. I put the reels in an old pillow case. My rain gear is packed in a small soft sided 6-pack cooler/lunch bag.
Put the rods in first, 1 at a time, and then place the other stuff in the big zipper compartment. Wrap one bungee around the center - and one bungee around the top of the bag to tie all the rods together. I carry and store 5 rods and 7 reels in my bag.


I have been traveling back and forth from east coast and the gulf for 16 years. I have yet to break a tip. (knocking on wood). All my rods are ugly sticks, tough and cheap. If I had better rods - I would pop for a more protective case.
