Good work on the jigs-they look great!
Way too much hair and the hook needs to be a 10/0.
I thought the chartreuse one had to much after I finished it. Got a little carried away. I only had 6/0 on hand and was experimenting. What style 10/0 would you use and amount of feathers. The orange one only has 4 for the body. I also weighed them and they are just over 2 ounces.
I think we are all kind of assuming that you are making these jigs for cobia fishing. If that's true, John G. is right on with 10/0 for hook size. Have seen a few 9/0 though. Most guys prefer at least a 3 oz. jig especially off the pier.
Octopus twerks on the cast with a big entry---nice colors though!
What would be the best jig for cobia from the pier. I design lures and can mold anything in my shop. Working on a soft plastic eel also. Thanks for all the insight and the compliment.
Mustad 3407 10/0 with a #2 brass sinker eye is a good choice. For the body,it's hard to beat buck tail with a few hackle feathers to give it some length. To make the buck tail work, the collar where you wrap the thread needs to be around the size of a pencil but with a ring a little larger where the lead meets the hook to force the hair to flair out. This makes a small amount of body look full. As for design,No Alibi and Big Ben are two of the more popular.
Thanks for the info. Gonna order some 10/0 hooks in the morning and ask a few buddies and see if I can round up a mold and get a few made. If no mold I will just sculpt one to make a mold.
