Old Eagle Claw Rod/Reel Combo

I was going through my parents old house that I grew up in and found a old, but well taken care of Eagle Claw combo. The rod is about 8' and called a Starfire, the reel is a black eagle I believe.. The combo looks big enough for most anything at GSSP. I would like to recondition it for use on the pier.

A few areas of concern

1: the drag is questionable, its rough when in its heavier range(can I grease or oil the drag somehow?)
2: the spool/gears have a 1/4ish turn of reverse from stopping point(may be normal)
3: the rod is a M, and is decent, but will it hold up to a tug from a drum with its age?

It would be a nice sentimental piece to use on occasion.. any tips appreciated. TIA

If its a front drag, drag washers might be a standard size, if so, you can grab some at J&M.
The 1/4 turn "slop" in the anti-reverse is probably normal, lots of older reel had that.
If the rod looks ok, use it. My main king rod is a 2-piece glass rod we bought in 1982. Its still going strong!
