This image really makes you realize the huge improvement in the new vs. the old pier.
The image is post-Isaac with the exact location of the old pier drawn on it.

:headbang: cool graphic Carl!
Sure puts it all in perspective.
I remember seeing something similar in the schem drawings and I was like ??? 8)

Based on those drawing I made up this rendering in 2007 (not too far off the result ;-)

Nice photo-rendering. I'm not quite that fancy!
I sure miss the old where I fished first coming down and got my passion for the salt water.....always wishing it was longer where I (we) would see all the fish busting the bait just past casting distance....with all that said ....what a heck of an improvement , and I love the new pier, that much more with so many quality fish being caught on the great...... chewing down the pier days :fishing: thanks for the pictures and memories to all !!!!!
If I could just go back to 1980 something after the pier was rebuilt to be with my old friends, and if some of those same people could see the new pier.......Sorry if that makes no sense, but,oh well.....
LOL
oh I understand what you meant...
Once I was trying to describe fishing the new pier to someone who had only fished the old and not even seen the new pier.
I told him "Remember when we used to stand on the end of the old pier and say
'IF ONLY IT WAS 100 YARDS LONGER.'
Well, now it's 200 YARDS LONGER!" :yippee: :headbang:

And what do people bi%ch about now? "Man, wish this pier was couple hundred yards longer." ::)
I can't see CarlF's picture. Anybody else have that problem?
Not me...
hmmm, I see now it is uploaded to another fishing forum that you have to be a member of in order to view pics (and even posts).
So I suspect it is a 'permissions' issue for you.
Can ANYONE else see Carl's pic at the top?

Hey! Cool graphic! Not quite as cool as that nifty high tech pier#r one. Speaking of which, wonder what changes a similar photo angle would show beach wise between 2007 and today?

Let me work on it, I will try get some time-sequence shots made up during lunch today.
You techknow people amaze me. Those graphics are so cool, and I am proud just to be able to type well. If it not for my sweet and lovely's computer skills, I wouldn't even get on the 'puter. This forum just amazes me with the width and depth of it's members skills and abilitys. None other like it. 'Nuff said.

[s]That pic really shows the bars and troughs. Can we get something like that close to real time? Google Earth?[/s]
NM - found it. Have to figure out how to improve the resolution. Not getting the same sharpness as the one you posted.
Is that the twenty foot depth countour where the old pier ended?

More like 12 feet ::)
I always think about the old pier too, and like was said above I remember standing and seeing fish busting bait and midday tarpon rolling 100-150 yards out and wishing they would come just a little bit closer. Now when I come down and rush to get out to the octi, I always think how I am walking past the water I used to wish I could fish!
Spent a lot days on the old pier wishing/hoping/praying my hardtail would be strong enough to swim out just far enough to get bit before someone else's line tangled him up and pulled me back in or I had to reel him back a little to let someone have room to fight their fish past me. Now I hustle past it to squeeze in at the rail on the end.
I guess if the grass is always greener on the other side then the water will always be "fishier" just beyond where you can get to!
