Pier#r---If I go fishing Monday and Tuesday, do you think I should bring an ice auger?
Give me a break Haywire! Where I live their calling for -30 degree days! At least the ice will be good for ice fishing!
One day a rather inebriated ice fisherman drilled a hole in the ice and peered into the hole, and a loud voice said, "There are no fish down there."
He walked several yards away and drilled another hole and peered into the hole, and again the voice said, "There's no fish down there."
He then walked about 50 yards away and drilled another hole, and again the voice said, "There's no fish down there."
He looked up into the sky, and asked, "God, is that you?"
"No, you idiot," the voice said, "it's the rink manager."
The last time it got as cold as the forecast calls for here at hunting camp, I walked out on the porch to watch the air molecules freeze and set my cup of coffee on the railing---it froze so fast the ice was still warm.
LOL! Thanks for the laughs guys!
The coldest I've ever seen it was when I was driving long haul, and broke down in Bismark, ND, it got down into the -20s.
So cold I could spit into the air, and it would freeze before it hit the ground.
So cold you could piss on a steel wheel hub, and it would slush and freeze without running off.
Enjoy your weather
It is -17 right now with a wind chill of -50
I can't even make this stuff up
Pretty cold here, 6 degrees now but going down to zero. It did get so cold once when I lived in the eastern part of the state that a big bonfire we had going froze solid. We busted the frozen flames up with a splitting maul and put the pieces in mason jars. From then on, whenever we needed a fire we could just open up one of the jars. I heard tell of two guys in a cussing match and the words froze mid air-when they thawed that spring curse words were heard all over. Of course I don't really believe that one....
Should be a lot of record temps . tonight . Would be interesting to hear some of them tomorrow .
-27 here in Wisconsin now! Everything is closed. Even my flashlight batteries are frozen. When I turn it on, the charge is sooo weak and cold the beam of light doesn't even shine straight, it just bends over to the ground. I know it's cold down there now too, but ya'll have no idea. At 17 degrees, I'd probably be fish'n in a t- shirt.
Call me a candy....but I came home from deer camp today...21 with an 18 mph breeze...built a fire in the buck stove.... been in the recliner most of the day
Back when I was in Boy Scouts, we went camping on a really cold night (not sure how cold---this was before thermometers were invented)---and when I tried to light the campfire, the flames would freeze and fall off the matchheads. Once we got a fire started, I swept the frozen pieces into the fire, but missed one and it got into my buddy's sleeping bag and gave him a nasty burn when it thawed out that night. This is a true story, and I can take you out and show you the exact spot where it happened. I could get my buddy to show you the scar, but it's in a place you don't want to look at. He says the wrong kind of toilet tissue still bothers him.
That same night, another Scout didn't bring enough cover and he shivered and complained all night. When we built the breakfast fire, he finally got up and shook out his blanked and a bunch of little gray, oblong things fell out and the ones that rolled close enough to the fire thawed out and went "Phfft, phoot, phaart." I didn't know those things could freeze.
Hey 1000 miles its gonna warm up tomorrow it will be -2. A heat wave. Can you guys gulf shores confirm or deny a rumor for me, i heard that they cancelled school today because of the cold.
No longer have kids in school, so don't know first hand, but---heard they were cancelling because buses are not heated, also because hooded jackets are banned and who wouldn't want to wear a hoodie tomorrow?
-15 here tonight....-35 chill factor
They cancelled most all schools yesterday and still today and many businesses were closed.
Even trains were having all kinds of switching problems and ran whenever they could.
Part of the problem is that we had over a foot of snow over the two days before and lots of wind.
Lots of the bus yards had the busses locked in with snow drifts
It was so cold that the salt did not melt any of the roads.
Interstate 65 has been closed for two days - just covered over with the blowing snow and black ice
Black ice is where it looks just like the paved road but is a sheet of ice, when you hit it you just loose control of the steering
I left home this morning for work when it was -11 - warmed up to +2 and is headed back down tonight
More snow tomorrow but then warming to about 30 for Thursday - crazy
If I ever retire I hope is is Gulf Shores area where I can be unhappy with the 20 degree temps - it is all relative to what you get use to
-5 actual temp . with a -31 wind chill factor this morning in the Blue Ridge .
Hi everyone schools in north al delays and some closed no garbage pick up frozen air lines NASA delayed opening until 10:00. No real ice just cold brrrrrrr.
School was closed here in North Alabama Monday due to icing on bridges and overpasses. Delayed this morning by 2 hours and in the morning for 3 hours due to power demand. Several people lost power last night for several hours. Its a good thing the socialist ******* running our country are forcing TVA to close 5 coal fired power plants. Its not like we need the extra capacity.
Just think guys, we have just gotten a small taste here in Alabama of what many people live in all winter. I spent 3 weeks in central Finland many years ago and the temp ranged from +15 to -17 during the period. I never saw the sun and it snowed every day. The street lights would go off about noon and come back on by 1 to 130 pm. Across the street from where I was staying there was a building under construction and the workers had to take a warming break for 10 minutes out of each hour. They were pouring concrete at 5 below and a friend that lives there said they have a special chemical mix and they can pour until 10 below zero. We are blessed with a generally easy winter and should appreciate it. I of course have been feeding my buck stove very regularly here recently.
Yep.... just think how crowded it would be, if we all moved to paradise ....for some of that warm 21 degrees
I would rather be called a googan... then a month-er ...although that month sure was fun this past fall
