should i keep the penn 750 or get ride of the 750 and get a 704
I have two penn 704 greenies and i use one ,so one is for sale i like them
The 750 is a better reel because you can still get parts for it and you can flip the bail manually, plus the line roller works. That's just a few reasons, there are many more.
It may be an optical illusion, but the 750 spool seems slightly narrower and deeper than the 704. If you think a wide, shallow spool casts better with light baits and feeds better to a running king, you would like that. The 750 users seem to do fine too.
The 704/704Z reels are still around because they have been bullet-proof (or easy to maintain) and good performers -- just be sure the drag washers are not the originals. There are those who think they may not handle braid as well because of the line roller issue (I wish I caught enough fish to wear a reel out :wall:) but if you fish the panhandle piers you probably know that mono is fine for the job and many people prefer it.
I am sure a 704 or 302-generation reel will work, and the price is often cheap if you don't care about cosmetics. (A 706z, by comparison, is often well over $100.) I would certainly not sell my 650 or 750 to get a greenie or Z to actually fish with but if I had a 704z in hand I would not be afraid to use it.
I guess i like the 704 and the 302 because they are nostalgic and work great ,i do have a 750 whichi use also
yea im using a penn 750 seems to work great

You can fix the 704/705 roller problem by grinding down the roller tray on the bail arm and adding a roller washer for a 750 (part #132). That still leaves the other differences.
I'd stick to the 750 if you not gunna get a 706

+1
They are both fishing 'TANKS' :headbang:
The 750 is 80s technology (like an M1)
The 704 is 60s technology (like a Sheridan)
Either will still 'do the job',
but IF you're looking for a change there may be better (newer) 'weapons' to kill fish with ;-)
