Penn conflict

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the penn conflict particularly the 8000. Im building my own cobia rod on a gator t90xh and was just looking for a reel to fit it. I thought about a 706z but i already have one and it doesn't fit the rod very well and its $50 more than the conflict. thanks for the replys.

I would use a 706. The t90xh is a meat stick and you need a reel that will balance it out well with line capacity and durability

but I'd go with the Conflict 8000
I've shown these at the store and am favorably impressed by them.
It's only 6oz heavier, but has a faster retrieve, nearly twice the max drag pull, and more than twice the sealed stainless bearings.
Plus, like you stated it's $50 less than the Z.
You could buy a spool of premium braid for less than that ;-)
And unless you're used to the bail less casting there could be a 'learning curve'.

Thanks for the replys i think ill go with the penn conflict i like the penn 706 but the conflict does make a lot more drag so i won't have to cup the spool and its $50 cheaper. thanks for all the replays they really helped.

I'm gunna stick with OPP on this one. I've fished the 8000 sized Fierce and Battle and I don't really like either, to bulky, the 7000 isn't bad but still. 706z remains my overall favorite spinning reel for most applications, now if I'm going to vertical jig with it, I'd use my 760 Slammer personally (only because I prefer bails while jigging, but for most other uses, I HATE bails with a passion).
