Penn Fierce 2 6000 combo

Was at bass pro today restocking on a few things, they had put out a big section of saltwater rod and reels and i saw the penn fierce 2 combo, looked to be a good combo for the price and had alot of good reviews online, ended up buying one and having them put some sufix siege 20lb mono on it, anybody ever used one of these before, like everything ive seen from it so far, tested it out in the pond out back but fishing from a pond bank and from the pier are way different lol, any feedback on this would be appreciated

I have and use the 6000 frequently. I also have a 4000 and even the big 8000. On my 6000 I have 40lb braid and i think 40 or 50lb flourocarbon leader. I love my Penn rod and reels...also they are all three the rod and reel combos. I will be using my 6000 for everything from fishing the jettys to bottom fishing on the reefs and out at the rigs... Although for the inshore fishing I usually prefer my lighter 4000 with 20lb mono!

I have a 2000F combo, it has served well.

I have the Penn Fierce 6000, bought it last February and used it during both trips I made down last year. Didn't get anything big in, but I had several sharks that I made it back to the pier with before breaking it off and caught 4 or 5 spanish as well as some catfish.

My only complaint was from the rod (it was the combo deal as well). I had the last eyelet come off sometime during the road trip down and I didn't realize it until a few hours after I had been fishing. Caused all my line to coil up (in much the same way you can make ribbon coil up by running it roughly across scissors). Another one (the largest eyelet) came off later, though it didn't affect anything since the line doesn't really rub on it. $10 fix when I got home since I didn't have anything to fix it with, but no big deal. And after I read some reviews, it seemed to be a somewhat common problem with the rod. So you might want to keep an eye on your eyelets.

Also (just thought of this before submitting), the reel handle comes unscrewed easily. I don't know if it's just the reels I'm used to, or if I was just doing something weird the last time I used it...but I remember it coming unscrewed often. Never to the point where it would fall off or anything, just enough that it would get annoying occasionally.

All in all, I am satisfied with it. It was $80 or something when I bought it for the combo I think on Amazon.

Thanks for the input, looked to be a solid combo, and i'll keep an eye on the eyelets, i almost picked up a 4000 model for spanish, but i have a pfluegar medium action rod that has served me well so decided to stick with that until it finally gives up the ghost

The Penn 6000 is a decent reel for the price. Since I'm on a budget and stuck in oklahoma for now, I've picked up one of the pursuit combos in 4000, and two of the 6000 sized reels. They hold up well to striper and hybrid fishing (incidentally some gar in the 4-5' range as well) here in OK. I've yet to have any parts fail and I've put them through their paces again and again. I pair the 6000 sized pursuit 2 reel with the cheap walmart 8' berkley big game rod. One of the 6000 reels is spooled with 30 lb power pro, the other has 17 lb suffix mono. I did take one of them to Maine last fall and used for saltwater striper fishing also. Just gave things a rinse and couldn't find any corrosion a few weeks later. Not to say that I would dunk them, but for pier/jedi fishing they do just fine. They're a good reel for the money as long as you don't expect top end performance from them- not the smoothest reel, drag isnt the strongest but it works for me.

Have about 15 spinning reels but don't have a Penn Fierce but do have 3 of the Penn Battles. We went out with a guide a few times and all he uses are Penn Fierce reels. I read an article about the best spinning reels on a budget and the Penn Fierce was one of them mentioned. I think its a good reel for the money.

Would love to see reports from you and Robert,when you guys are in Panama city......there is an out of the area you can post.....I miss seeing and reading your post from the forum Chad had and now is gone

I bought the Penn Fierce 6000 combo off Amazon last year. Brought it for both of my trips. Caught a 23lb stingray, several spanish, brought lots of sharks up to the pier before cutting off, had a king hooked on it shortly but it broke off. My only complaint with it was that if you bump the reel backwards the handle comes unscrewed easily. Most spinning reels I've used took several turns before the reel goes "floppy", but this one seems to take about 1 full turn. Not a big deal, just means if you do something dumb the handle might get a little crooked and force you to fix it before you can reel correctly (straighten it out when you turn it so it's straight). Another thing I had with the rod...I had the rod tip eyelet ceramic ring come off on the trip down. And then later in the same week I had one of the middle eyelets have the same problem. It just meant lots of coiled line I had to cut off. Got it fixed for $10, but kind of annoying since it was on my first trip with it and I didn't realize why my line was getting so coiled up for a while.

I've got 17lb mono on mine. Was hoping to catch some sheepshead with it this year, but not looking like I'm going to get to come down for a while. Thought I was going to get to drive down solo, and then my car decided the transmission wanted to go bad.
