Picking a good surf location

Below is the beach right across from where I will be staying in october. Which of the 4 types of areas do you think would be most productive(if any). Looking for some rhyme or reason in how to pick a good spot for surf fishing. Seems that the sand bar alternates between creating a big "pool" and a narrow "channel". If fish are moving back and forth through these spots the narrow spot seems to make more sense but if they are typically just holding in one spot the bigger "pool" seems like it would hold more.

Any ideas or am I way of base here?

That looks like West Beach Pass on the right side of the pic.
#4 will be a very good spot to fish on an outgoing tide. The dropoff where there is the most current will be worth some effort. The bottleneck could be good anytime. Good luck.

And an outgoing tide would be after you have hit high tide and it is moving to low correct?

Are you calling the bottleneck where it goes into the lagoon or the narrow spots out in the surf?

As far as pompano goes i have never caught one so I dunno. Would just love to catch a few fish whatever they may be.

I think you will catch lots of fish in october. You are correct in the tide question after the high tide. The bottle neck would be on either side of #2. #4. Would be your best place to start.

Yes on the tide. Incoming can be good there sometimes as well.
Your #2 is a bottle neck spot, just make sure you don't cast beyond it.
Fish in the surf can sometimes be a lot closer to shore than people realize. Specially whiting.

Last year we saw several fish(no idea what they were) chasing bait just a few fet from shore so i know what you mean. I really appreciate the info. Wish i could make it down more often to learn and develop some of this stuff on my own but a trip per year makes that tough.
