Pier Fishing Guide

Hi Folks - I searched but couldn't find any advice on this: any advice or contacts for someone that does 'guide' work on the pier? I've never pier fished, and had booked with someone to come out and help me learn a bit (Pier#r). Unfortunately he's had something come up and can no longer meet me. Any advice on folks that do this sort of pier-fishing guide work?

I don't have the full 6 hours or desire to spend the money on a charter so any advice is appreciated! Looking get to enjoy fishing a bit, learn how to set up rigs, and if lucky bring some grub back to the condo.

In town next week, 7/10-7/15, hoping to go out one or two mornings.

Sounds like the pier is generally a friend group of folks, so maybe I just come out solo after talking to someone at a B&T shop for advice and hope to get some tips/tricks from those fishing one morning :)

Between the search feature on this forum, and like you said just going out and asking locals on the pier while you fish, you can learn all you need to know, thats how i did, how i continue to do it as a matter of fact, learn something new everyday it seems like

Truly, there's not a single aspect of the pier experience that hasn't been detailed on this forum. What a person needs to know is:

What tackle to use - What knots to tie - how to rig for various species - what species are biting at a given time - what part of the pier do you fish from, to catch a particular species - What bait or lures to use - Where/how to get bait - what techniques are effective to catch select fish species - limits and keeping your catch - how to prepare your catch for the dinner table -

All of these topics have been thoroughly discussed, with pictures and diagrams and I-don't-know-what-all and the information is all available using the Search feature. A pier neophyte just needs to search his areas of interest and read away for hours! It's all there in previous discussions!

I would have to agree with Eym 100%. While David would've been the quickest fix and best bet... the search feature has volumes of information from a lot of skilled fisherman and it really helped me. Probably made me less effective at work but I read through it every day for months when we moved here last summer. I still read through it weekly. One lesson i learned quick.. Use the lightest line/tackle you can and still land the fish you're targeting. It has definitely produced more strikes/hook ups for me and my crew and it's more fun to be honest.

I'm coming to town the same week! I plan to spend the 13 hour car ride (and probably hours between now and then) searching everything you've got on pier fishing. Thanks to everyone that has invested time into building this forum. If I see any of you out there I'll try and thank you in person!
