Pier Update
I just saw on WKRG 5 News that the they are POSSIBLY going to have the pier open Saturday morning.
Possibly not Probably. but still sounds promising!
The last time the pier was damaged, only half from beach to the Mid was opened quickly. The repairs took a while on the Octi.
I kinda wish I hadn't posted this, but I doubt that I am the only one who saw it on the news.
I sure hope this is one time the news crew got it right.

Re: Pier Update
I guess there's a lot of pressure to have everything full speed for Labor Day. It would suit me just fine for the pier to be ready when the water will let us catch fish. A Saturday opening would far exceed expectations.

Just copied the following from the Alabama State Park fb page!
“The contractors are making amazing progress in putting the Pier back together. There is "hope" that it will be open Saturday (Not a guarantee), however there will still likely be some repair work need then, like replacing water spigots on the end of the Pier.”

What should they be harnessed to? Why be concerned about a 20 ft. fall into water in the first place? I'm no expert on the regulations, but beside from the guy on the deck wearing only a soft cap I can see anything that would be out of compliance.

Re: Pier Update
I happened to be driving by and saw a truck carrying a load of treated lumber going around the barricade

Re: Pier Update
Wilson you didn't get lucky enough. It took out the south rail, but that dang light pole is still standing. :poke1:

Re: Pier Update
Heard on the radio this morning that they still expect to have the pier open tomorrow.

Govt regulations aren't based on common sense or logic.

No doubt a florocarbon harness, almost invisible from a distance in photos. :poke1:

Re: Pier Update
I don't know how many fish will be caught but I appreciate their effort to make sure those coming to visit at least get to fish.

Re: Pier Update
Great job this time on rapid response to the pier damage. The last time which I think was either Ida or Ike in either 2009 or 2010 in November and it was several weeks to get the full pier back in operation. I was staying at the Four Seasons at the time and I started catching fish on the third day after the storm from that pier. We had an invasion of Sheephead like I had never seen before. They looked like a river flowing by and around the pier. There were tens of thousands of them. By the way the water cleared up and calmed down very quickly after that storm. No problem getting a limit. We also caught slot reds and a good many flounder after the storm. I am very impressed with the State Pier Staff in their handling of this storm.

Re: Pier Update
Someone should have bribed the bobcat operator to have a "accident" and knock it over

Re: Pier Update
A big thanks to those guys for getting the rock put back together. I didn't think I would get to fish the pier Sept. 8th week but now it is looking very good.
