I went to high school with this guy, far as I know he's a decent fella, but haven't been in touch in a while. Hopefully it was an honest mistake.

It does happen unfortunately, but that is by NO means an excuse. The captain should have checked to see if he was booked
I figure it this way, if everyone in the world had a lie clock, whose hands moved once every time they lied. You could use any politicians lie clock as a ceiling fan.

When you are in the service industry, reputation is EVERYTHING!!. As evidenced by the repeated posting of the captain's name and boat on the other forum, you can get to the top of a google search pretty quickly. I'd be surprised if it doesn't cost him a little bidness. Or, perhaps, he has enough that he doesn't care. And that's all I have to say about that.
Fish. Just fish.

Booking agents take a hefty cut so captains would much rather run a group they book themselves.

IF it was an honest mistake then I apologize. this could have been somebody's trip of a lifetime and better care should be taken to assure it doesn't happen.

Likely somebody got 'butthurt'.
I'm not defending anyone's action (or reaction), just sayin that anybody in any business (especially in the service business) can make mistakes (Lord knows I have *rolleyes*)
but I fess up, and try to make it up to them ;-)(RETIRED) mostly.
