I'm looking at the VS 150 and Penn Torque TRQS5- Bailless. Plan on using whichever I get for both a king reel as well as surf fishing. I think the money is pretty close. I'd appreciate your thoughts.

It's hard for me to downgrade a reel I haven't seen yet but in this case I will being you want it compared to a VS150.The VS has been around for a couple decades and has seen very few changes because the design was almost perfect from the start. The Penn is a retrofitted skirted spool bailed reel with a big chunk of something opposite from the roller to try help balance the thing.I have never seen a skirted spool reel with a manual conversion that performed half way decent.Sorry if this was not the answer you were looking for,but then again it's just an opinion.
Thanks. Wasn't looking for a particular answer other than your opinion-regardless of what if was. Haven't read a single review of either that shucked it to thd cob the way you did. Can't spend that kind of money without knowing as much as I can. Again, thanks. Hope you have a VS150B in stock next Saturday.
We have four each in black and silver. We've been spooling them with 275yds of 20lb braid and a 150yd 16lb top shot.Another thing, the VS weighs 12.7oz and the Penn is closer to 20.
Excellent
the silver's seem to fad less or when they do..... it is less noticeable any way....I have seen the gold's that are almost silver looking after awhile
There's a black one that faded into a dark purple color. Looks custom. A couple of my gold ones had faded to an almost silver. My silver one hadn't fade a bit.
Hmm. Have to think about it. Wouldn't mind a plum color as long as it didn't fade to that ugly ass LSU purple. :spank:
