Hey guys we come down a couple times a year and try to squeeze in a couple days on the pier, some surf fishing and a couple charters. This year me and my boy would like to try a little crabbing. I don't bring my boat down so was hoping someone could point me in the right direction to put in a couple wire crab traps. Basically I am fairly knowledgeable from little lagoon down to wolfe bay and perido pass. Any help would be much appreciated.

this should help you regarding the legalities. They are pretty prevalent in little lagoon, the pier(no wire traps), and right off the beach in the summer months. Although most are egg bearing females...
Thanks for the info. I have been hitting the legalities pretty hard. We are coming down the 3rd week of March and again in July if that makes a difference.
From what I understand, March may be somewhat challenging as far as crabbing goes. However one of those little %$@ of &*#%@ caught me! July I'm assuming would be the better of the two times. I'm not a local so I may be somewhat off base.
I see people putting in traps off the pier at Fort Morgan, but I don't know about leaving one. Maybe you could be last to leave in the evening (before they close the gate) and first to return in the morning and do OK.
Ft. Morgan pier is open all night for fishing, just the beach closes in the evening but I wouldn't leave a trap overnight because it isn't going to be there in the morning. It's traditionally been a good spot for crabbing...we don't do it often but have found some nice blues there when we lived just down the road.
