Supposed to have snow tomorrow afternoon through Tuesday morning but they aren't exactly sure where the line will be. Usually when they predict snow it goes south of us or just across the Tennessee line. Either way I'm sick of the cold and wet and a muddy Wheeler Lake. I'm down to one pack of redfish and two packs of speckled trout. We ate the last of the pompano last night and I can't catch crappie in cold muddy water.
They catch crappie through the ice so cold you can beat, but muddy is entirely something else. When Wheeler freezes enough for ice fishing . . . it will be a really cold winter up where I currently live, so I'll loan you my ice drill while driving south.
Me too! In north Alabama and ready for warm weather. Got a day booked on the pier with pier#r during spring break for me and my boy and have looked at Bass Pro shops and Cabela's til I have em memorized !
Chillin muddy water in this end of Wheeler as well I live in priceville.
Go to Flint Creek and catch some some crappie.
I'm not sure about the depth on Flint Creek but I'm sure my old bas boat would be a magnet for stumps down there. I like the bluffs at First and Second Creek on the lower end. The colder and clearer the better. Makes them stack up like cord wood but they are deep and won't touch a jig in muddy cold water.
I've ran Flint at 60+ MPH in 21ft boats. Put in off of 31 between Hartselle and Decatur and just take your time. Water depth is over 20 ft in places. More lay downs than you can fish in a day.
How deep are the crappie usually or does it vary a lot?
I don't fish for them much but the times I have it just depended on which tree top you find them in.
Only 241 days till bow season.
so how did you do this past season? anymore wall hangers? my season stopped after gun week....to darn cold and the snow started flying , needed to be home .....
that was some fine Jalapeno trail sausage....not to hot, just a slight bite here and there.(I don't do hot, but that sure was doable)
12 below in Oakland Nebraska this morning, I think I'll go ice fishing today when it warms up to the high of 12 this afternoon. Crappie will be the target. Go Fish!!!
I am sssoooooooo ready for warm weather. Normally it's in the upper 40's to upper 50's right now they are calling for a high of 25 today
looks like 56 now at Gulf Shores....that would be warm enough for me
