The last article I read was that it was the female of the nesting pair but no cause yet other than it was just a rumor it ran into the zip line. They have better eyesight than that. It was also mentioned that the young in the nest can be raised by the remaining parent.
I also see osprey from the pier regularly. Even saw one on the fence Thirsday overlooking perdido pass up on top of the bridge waiting for a meal. I also see them in the nests when cutting through the park along Lake Shelby, so they're around.
ive had them dive for my bait when fishing live bait on a float off the pier. I didn't realize until then that they would dive!
There are a blue million of them on the tn river chain. Almost every tree has a nest.
We also have 12or13 whooping cranes here at Wheeler
The osprey is one of the few bird that are world wide. Always carry there fish head forward because it is more aerodynamic.
Bald Eagles have become common around the causeway in winter. See one almost every week, sometimes 2 or 3. They really give the coots hell when 2 or 3 gang up on a flock.
I see a few bald eagles on Guntersville, Wheeler, and Pickwick buy never see the Osprey on my end of Wheeler.
