FB message from Bill Walton, Auburn Shellfish Lab yesterday, October 15, 2018As of this afternoon, the Alabama Department of Public health and ADEM reported concentrations of Karenia brevis (red tide) of 3,900 and 4,000 cells per liter at Alabama Point and Gulf State Park Pavillion, respectively.
While any product harvested currently is safe, shellfish harvest in Alabama will be closed as soon as any station goes above 5,000 cells per liter. ADPH will be sampling later this week. Everyone should be aware that a closure may immediately follow the analysis of those samples.
For areas 1, 2 and 3, ADPH has collected water samples and expect the results on Wednesday.
