Things look kinda gloomy: red tide is now in MS Sound, lower parts of the Bay, possibly as far north as Fairhope.

Given the warm weather and south winds, I have a bad feeling that this is going to get worse before it gets better.
It just seems 'odd' to me, MR and ADEM are doing all this testing and for the most part local news media are not reporting a thing about it.
The notable exception was Ben Raines piece in the Mobile Register last week...

MRD & ADEM (mainly) do the collecting, Health Department does the testing.
Its not very newsworthy 'cause it aint tourist season. IMO.
If a shark washed up on the beach because of the red tide the news will have live helicopter feeds 24/7. If there isn't a shark involved they aren't covering it!
This is my first year living on the Gulf Coast and first time experiencing Red Tide... I know you guys are saying this year is the worst in a long time but is this something to expect every year? on a much smaller scale ?
I've been here since 97, this the first bad one I remember. I remember a much smaller event but like nothing like this.
So Historically it has not been a yearly event. But with these screwy weather patterns who knows.
Bay isn't dying but pogies and shad are. To give the media credit they have covered it some. But we haven't had massive fish kills or dolphins and manatees washing up like they did in Florida years back. So it's not making headlines daily.
