What might be biting at the pier in early september?

Normally, the water is still pretty hot the first half of September, with the fishing being not too pretty good for the glamor species.

It's all about the weather! Early September is potentially a very active time for tropical storms. If a bad storm blows through, it's hardhead catfish and sailcats until the water settles down. Early September is hot, so the bite may not be. Your best strategy may be to diversify and come prepared to catch a wide variety of fish. I caught my best-ever trout in early September. I've caught some really big Spanish Mackerel then. Your best indicator of what is biting will be the daily reports leading up to the time that you'll be fishing at the pier. Check those daily, just keep in mind that most of the reports are offered by guys who frequent the deeper water and there aren't many skinny-water reporters. I'll try to add some information from the shallows, this year, in case you're interested.
