I use Blakemore Reel Spray for fresh water stuff. Never tried it for my beach stuff just wash them out real good and lube bearings on my baitcasters every once and awhile.
Some people recommend spaying WD40 on a clean soft rag and rub it around your reel. Don't spray the WD40 directly on the reel because it doesn't need to go into the inside the reel. It basically repels the salt spray off the reel.
I use cheap reels since I am poor and don't live there. Mostly because I'm poor. I rinse everything off with cool tap water after each trip and spray them down with Reel Magic when I get back home. It seems to protect them from the salt spray and I have even submerged a few while surf fishing. Certainly worth $8.00.
I spray them off with freshwater after each trip then spray them with Penn Rod and Reel Cleaner
reel ,guides , the rod it's self, when I return home or after a few days if were there for a week.
Corrosion-X,
but I'd still wash in running but low pressure fresh water (like a shower)
