a reel question!

hey guys, i am chilling down here in Antarctica and dreaming of getting home and coming back to the pier to go fishing (soon i hope) and decided to invest in a new reel since my 302s crapped out on my last trip... i am not looking to spend a whole lot i wanna keep it below 200 if possible and ordering off ebay is a good way to do so... i have narrowed it down to a couple choices considering this will be a general purpose pier reel...

first off is the Penn Battle BTL7000
second is the Daiwa STT6000H Saltist


so between those and any you have a good recommendation on can i have your thoughts? the 302 is being refurbished and such but they will mostly stay around as backups...

The battle will be a heavier reel but its built like a tank And the ht100 drag is super smooth. I haven't fished the saltist but I haven't seen anyone bashing them either. I'm sure someone here has had one and can give you a review on it.

IDK if u like manuals, but if so then a 706 gold spool would be a good investment, order off ebay or buy brand new. If u like bails, then the penn battle or the conflict would both work well. I also have a penn 650 and it has caught more kings than my three 706s combined, they make a bailed and a manual version, though it is a smaller reel and I like to use 12 or back up 100yds of 16 with 12 mono or 20lb braid.

Might want to see( Alen Hawks ) reel reviews . Some great info and he seems straight up in his reviews . You might aslo check out the new Penn Conflict . Stepup from the Battle ,but within your price range .

I have a Saltist 4500 and love it. Smooth as glass and good strong drag!
Got it at J & M and John set it up with braid and a top-shot of 15# mono. (not sure what # test the braid is)

Check out the penn spinfisher V. HT 100 drags and really smooth. I use a penn conquer 7000, it's a nice reel but more than you're wanting to spend.

battles are a real good investment. get you a 5000 with 14 lb momoi mono spooled on it you will not be disapointed. both of my brothers use the 5000 and love it. i just prefer using a manual so a 706 is my reel of choice.

awesome guys thanks for the info... just one point of clarification.. a manual would mean i would have to trip the bail to start reeling instead of it doing it on its on right?

Manual means there is no bail, takes some getting used to, but a lot of people love the manuals.
