I inherited several large Penn reels/rods and i just purchased a Okuma 65abf. how do i know if the reel is to large for pier regs? I just want to abide by the rules and enjoy some fishing.

nobody will really pay attention to your reel size....... although i think that in the rules it says you cant use a 4.0 on the pier.
There is no rule against spinning reels of any size so your Okuma is fine. The Penns should say what model they are on the reel somewhere. I think the point of the rule is to discourage sharkin'.
yea all spinning reels are fine its conventionals
A 4/0 size reel holds approx. 600yds of 30lb mono.
Any of the Penn 113models aka 4/0, or equivalent, is fine.Quote:
