I will be visiting Gulf Shores in another week, I was wondering what is biting and what we could expect to catch consistently. We plan on fishing from shore and from the pier. Any information would be greatly appreciated. We usually use spoons and shrimp. I have read that sand fleas can be the ticket. Thanks in advance for any info
If the wind and the current stay the way it has been then you will catch a lot of catfish and sharks, with a few other fish mixed in. From the shore that is. From the pier I do not know.
I heard a few good things about bluefish, and a few pompano being caught. Has the wind changed these bites?

While it's difficult to predidct what will be biting from one day to the next I do try to look for trends or any kind of pattern in the bite.

Because it has been so rough and dingy so far this week the shore bite has been very limited unless you are looking for hardheads and 'sourkraut' seaweed ;-) LOL
But I expect that will change over the coming days as the winds and seas are predicted to back off.
Stay tuned to the reports and if fishing (catching) is not very good next week at one location don't be afraid to try another that looks (or sounds) promising.
I haven't heard about any pompano this week, but the bluefish are a distinct possibility even from the pier in current conditions.Quote:

yesterday i caught my limit of spanish mackerl and then kept catching and releasing them. once the school of macks moved along the blues rolled in i caught about 25 of them then called it a day. i caught everything on a bubble rig with a red straw at the middle platform. today i caught 3 spanish the first 2 were 13 inches and the third was the biggest one i caught my entire trip. it was 17 inches.
