Respooling
When you re-spool a reel that holds 300 yards of line, do you strip and refill the whole thing to eliminate the splice, or just replace the top 100 or so yards? The thought here is a reel that might be used for kings that could get pulled out a ways.

Definitely 'dump' the old line.
Even though it hasn't seen much daylight it has been under stress from heat & humidity and pressure from the over bearing layers of line.
And splices in line are a 'weak link'!

Line isn't expensive compared to a Rod, Reel and all the tackle you have.
Always strip all the old line and replace it with the best you can afford.
Remember that it's that line and a hook that stands between you and the Fish

Sure, that all makes sense. Thanks.

If you don't have as big a reel as you think you might need you can always start the spool with braid for backing and then top with an appropriate amount of premium mono
