Anyone fish the rocks at Perdido Pass in October? We will be staying about a 100 yards or so from them in the Phoenix East II condos the first week of October. Just wandering what my two kids could expect to catch and maybe the best baits/lures? Thanks a bunch!!
Definitely good fishing from the rocks in October. In fact I fished the west side rocks a few October’s ago and caught a fish on every cast. Unfortunately I only casted once. Even though I was very aware how dangerous the rocks could be, especially the inter-tidal ones covered with invisible slime as slick as ice, with a fish on I hopped down one rock closer to the surf. Both feet slid out behind me, smashed my spinning reel into several pieces and broke the rod. And these were the best things that happened. Tried to stand up and my right knee came out of joint and back down I went. Turned out to be a severed ACL. The LONG walk back to the parking area on the west side was quite an adventure with my knee dis-jointing 4 more times. Anyway point is the rocks are extremely dangerous especially with kids. Oh I did hand line my fish in. It was a 10” mangrove snapper ☹️
October is a good time for speckled trout and redfish. I didn't go out there on the rocks until I was an older teen. I wouldn't suggest it for little kids. That said, I caught my biggest-ever trout there. My favorite lure in October is a paddletail plastic bait. I catch reds, specks and flounder on it. If you want to use live bait, I'd use a live shrimp with or without a popping cork.
MarkS----Ouch! That hurts just reading about it. My rock-hopping days are long gone, but I caught a long ton of fish on both jetties from my 14' open skiff back in the day. Of course I picked my weather. Bluefish on a topwater are a blast there, just use a wire leader. Best of luck to you and to ssstovall.

You can fish the beach on the east side of the pass late evening to dark with cut mullet and catch bull reds and bluefish during October. On the right tide and moon, the action can be epic. The beach is probably less dangerous and less work than fishing from the jetty on the west side. Especially for kids.
Edit - I was on the east side jetty rather than west.
