For my truck I purchased a ratcheting cargo bar at the local auto parts store. I attached adjustable rod holders to the bar ratcheting all to the truck. Bought them on Amazon. You can use PVC for less money. My homemade rig works well and was significantly less costly than those advertised.

I tried to attach a pic, but got an error message: content too large. If anyone is interested shoot me a PM and I will send a pic.

PlanoŽ 6508 Airline Telescoping Rod Case extends to fit a 9ft rod
I own a bazooka that I extended for just over 8ft rods, but needed one for a couple 9ft....found the plano airliner second hand in next to new condition that fits all the rods just like the azooka plus the 9ft'ers with no alteratios

I wouldn't mind having one of those. How could I attach it to the roof of my SUV (which has luggage rack) and lock it so somebody doesn't steal it.

It has holes for locks , when I carry mine on top i ratchet strap and nylon cord tie just in case, but my wife is with me at that time ......so pit stops someone is always with the vehicle, when I come solo it fits inside the explorer back hatch to almost the dash board , the only issue with that is it's over the console where the gun is......neither tube did I pay what they cost new.....this 2nd one was 40, but needed it for a couple more inches for the few 9ft rods.....at one time I was collecting 2 piece rods for when I down size in vehicles .....if your thinking of using it while down there daily , that might be a security problem....mine is only for the road trip, once there everything stays rigged inside the vehicle but the pier cart and cooler that stays locked on the reese hitch carrier , when not on the pier

I have a Bazooka and it has holes for padlocks, but it is plastic, so if anyone wants it bad enough they can cut it loose, but locks and chains can be cut, too, hell, I've even drilled locks to explosive magazines (my own, don't get excited if there are any BATF agents out there).
    RTR anyway.

Use ratchet straps to secure it to the luggage rack and a bicycle lock cable routed through the handle and around the luggage rack rail or a steel cable with eyes at each end and padlock in the hole provided for the lock.

That's how we do it coming from east Tennessee. Ratchet strapped on top or in the bed of the truck depending on which vehicle we take.

Greg if a maroon ford explorer with Thule ski racks pass's you around Atlanta it's me and those ski racks are the way to go for transporting rods . Best $$$ I've spent on fishing gear and it's not some eyesore on your ride ,
