Braid on surf reel?
Putting my black 706 back on my 12' surf rod and was thinking of putting 10-15# braid on it with a 50-100' top-shot of 20-30# mono(for the high ounces). I'm thinking the braid will fly further. I currently have 300yds 20# mono on it. Any reason I should not use braid surfing?

There is a reason you should investigate further before putting braid on a 706. Braid can cut a groove in older line rollers. There is a reason newer rods and reels advertise that they are "braid-friendly."

Unless you use a yellow braid it is very hard to see, the top shot is a good idea, the braid will eat your bail finger up!

Learn a good knot that will go thru those guides easily.

This is the way I rig all my braid to flouro or mono. Works great!
