Rod for Penn Longbeach 67
I recently inherited an old Penn Longbeach 67 reel when my brother-in-law's dad passed. It's in fair condition and I cleaned it up best I can (I don't think you can destroy those things). I also gained an old Slammer rod but it's a spinning rod and labeled as light. This is the first conventional reel I've ever owned, but I wanted to know if there's any real issue using it on that slammer rod. I also have a penn battle rod, that is at least medium heavy, but again is spinning. A buddy of mine who has lifelong saltwater experience suggested putting either on there, but I wanted to get some other opinions from you guys and gals. Yes, I could buy a decent rod for less than $50, but I am also buying other new stuff, so gotta keep my budget tight. Additionally, any input on line is appreciated. I'm leaning toward putting 80# braid on, but also thought about just 50# mono (I'll add that I have never personally used braid...). I'm intending to use this setup trolling on my kayak and possibly live baiting at the pier, unless you guys laugh me off.
Actions hot right now, I've got a little over 2 weeks til game time, can't wait.
