Rod and Reel Choices
I am going to be back down in June with my kayak, and am curious about a quality combo for some of the larger fish that I might encounter in the bays. I am thinking of fish like Crevalle Jacks, etc. I have some nice inshore equipment, and I have a small tackle business, so I am able to order Penn, Shimano, and others. I am looking for a shorter rod that is easy to handle, but that can stand up to hooking into something larger if I find them.

Never been in a kayak but when I go to the pier I use a 6500 Penn battle 2 combo 30 pound mono hope this helps :)

Rod: Ugly Stik Tiger Lite, a kayakers favorite.
Reels for doing a lot of casting, Penn Fierce (with HT-100 drags) or Battle II, in the 5K-6K range.
Reels for trolling/bottom, an old Penn 3/0 or 4/0 is a great fish winch.
Both rod/reels are relatively inexpensive so it won't hurt too badly if you lose one.
And all are also very well regarded for getting the job done.
