Kings, whatever you feel comfortable using. People catch them on bass rigs, you can get a custom rod, or even ultra lite. How sporty do you wanna be?
A good all around king rod is the Rods that John and myself build on a batson 8ft blank. They make great tough king blanks and I know of one cobia that has been caught on one that I built.
I wanna get something Stiff but with a little bit of give because last time I hooked a cobia and it popped off because my rod was so flimsy. Pier pest, How much would one of those Batsons run For?
You cannot go wrong with a batson blank.
I like using lighter 6' 6" rods for kings, not just because i can feel them and play them better, but because i'm no where near as exhausted after a full day of fishing. Allows me to fish while my bad shoulder is healing too.
Although, if you see me pull out the 5' clarus bream pole, that's strictly for fun. I don't recommend that unless you're just wanting to play around and annoy people who think fish can only be caught on big poles.

Fish don't pop off because a rod is too flimsy.

Prices all depend on how fancy you want to get with them.
Seems like the Walmart special catches fish... Last week we saw one snap in two on a stud king. I wonder if he wish he bought a better rod.
Guess ill talk to peir pest about that Batson.
